Britain's Holly Neill won bronze in the women's F41 discus at the IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon on Thursday.

Neill, 24, threw 21.54m to secure third place but Tunisia's Raoua Tlili had already made her mark with a throw of 27.84m on her first attempt. Tlili's fellow Tunisian Fathia Amaimia was more than six metres behind in the silver medal position with a distance of 21.70m.

"I can't quite believe it," Neill told Channel 4. "I came out here wanting a top-five place and I've come back with a bronze medal."

Ireland's Jason Smyth secured his second gold of the competition, winning the T13 100m in a championship record of 10.61sec to add to his T13 200m title.

There was a world record in the women's javelin F54/55/56 as Tunisia's Hania Aidi (F54) took gold with her final attempt of 18.32m to retain the title she won in 2011.

In the F12/13 category, Anna Sorokina bettered the championship record three times, culminating in a final javelin throw of 39.75m to seal gold for Russia ahead of Austria's Natalija Eder.

South Africa's Paralympic long jump F13 champion Ilse Hayes smashed Anthi Karagianni's existing championship record with a 5.76m leap to secure her country's second gold at the event and Poland's Tomasz Paulinski took gold in the men's shot put F35 with a throw of 11.11m on his sixth attempt.
