ONE St Wilfrid's School pupil had more reason to celebrate than anyone else in town – as she achieved the best GCSE results in Crawley.
Mimi De Quay secured a perfect 11 A* grades and it was definitely a year for the Southgate school's girls. Because the next best performers were all females, with Holly Burchett, Elouise Lyons, Jessica Green, Hollie Witton and Niamh Quinlivan all achieving a clean sweep of A*s and A's.
Hollie, 16, of Laurel Close in Furnace Green, achieved five A* grades and five A's.
She said: "I am surprised with my results. I was expecting them to be lower because of the pressure of grade boundaries – with a lot of our units they moved the boundaries.
"I had a couple of sleepless nights. It was stressful but I did my best.
"My favourite subjects were drama and English. I am going to sixth form here, to do Spanish, music, theatre studies and English literature.
"I would then like to go to uni to do something with languages or go to drama school. In the long run I plan to be a drama teacher."
Jessica, of Poplar Close in Langley Green, also received five A* grades and five A grades.
The 16-year-old said: "I am relieved, so relieved. It was a lot of hard work and sometimes I wondered if I'd done enough, but now I've got the results I know I did.
"I am coming back here for sixth form and I am doing geography, psychology, drama and English literature."
Niamh, of Lambs Farm Road in Horsham, achieved five A* grades and four A grades.
The 16-year-old said: "I am surprised – I didn't think I would be getting A* grades.
"All the hard work has paid off – I worked as hard as possible and got a bit stressed out.
"I am going to sixth form here to study music, English language, English literature and psychology."
An impressive 87 per cent of St Wilfrid's students achieved at least five A* to C grades and 63 per cent received at least five A* to C grades, including English and maths.
Mia Lowney, head of Year 11 over the last year, said: "In light of the national performance I think our students have been exemplary. I am particularly proud of the six top performing students."
Head teacher Jonathan Morris added: "If you look against the predictions the Government has made for this year group, we are delighted with the progress our children have made.
"It looks like the national figures are down this year but that is not what we have experienced." Reported by This is 5 hours ago.
