Assemblymember Mitchell will be recognized for her leadership in creating access to quality and affordable health care services for 25,000 children and their families in the Los Angeles community.

Mitchell is also the CEO of Crystal Stairs, the largest childcare agency in California. She spent many years as a policy analyst for the California Senate’s Health and Human Services Committee, where she sought fiscally sound ways to expand health care and other vital services. Her advocacy efforts to restore funding for California’s poorest families are recognized as an influential inspiration to the Los Angeles community.

“AltaMed is proud to honor Holly with our Impact Award for all the great work she does for the betterment of our patients and the community as a whole,” said Cástulo de la Rocha, president and CEO of AltaMed Health Services in an official release.

AltaMed has provided health care services to those who have needed it the most in Los Angeles and Orange Counties for the past 42 years.  Through its annual Gala, AltaMed is able to raise the funds necessary to continue providing quality care at a time when it’s most needed.

Friday night’s gala event will include dinner and a speech from former Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers NBA player, John Salley, who has joined AltaMed as its spokesperson in its fight against childhood obesity.

In addition to Mitchell, AltaMed will honor Dr. T. Colin Campbell with the Visionary Award for authoring The China Study and his role in the famed Forks over Knives documentary that set the stage for an ongoing conversation about health and wellness around the world.
