Widman for Visit Philadelphia[/caption] Get your flags out/ Philadelphia will celebrate Independence Day with events like a free concert, an impressive fireworks display and of course, one huge, hoagie. [related tag="Wawa-Welcome-America" limit=5] The 2014 Wawa Welcome America festival, which stretches from Wednesday and into Sunday, has scheduled events and activities across the city and beyond throughout the rest of the week. Metro has compiled the best and most interesting celebrations in this edition for your convenience. Just make sure to remember your sunblock, American spirit and antacids. It's a really big hoagie. *Wawa to build 5-ton hoagie* The 5-ton Wawa hoagie with more than 10,000 pounds of ingredients will be served outside the Independence Visitor Center at noon today. Wawa's Lori Bruce said 150 workers will build the sandwich in about four hours. Wawa will also honor military as well as local fire and police. "It's not only the celebration of a sandwich," Bruce said, "but also recognizes those who serve the community." *Storms to pass* Wednesday will be hot and sticky with a heat index of 100, said Jim Bunker with the NWS in Mount Holly. Thunderstorms will start Wednesday but it won't impact fireworks shows on Friday night, he said. Temperatures will be in the 80s on Thursday and Friday and on the weekend. “Once we get past this front, things should be pretty good," Bunker said. *SEPTA to run additional services* SEPTA will run a Sunday schedule with extra late-night service on July 4. Overnight subway services: In effect all weekend every 20 minutes until 5 a.m. Market-Frankford: 4:30 p.m. to 1:15 a.m., 10 more trains running every five to seven minutes. BSL: 4:28 p.m. to 1:15 a.m., eight more trains every five to seven minutes. RR: 11:30 p.m. to 12:45 a.m., 17 trains from Suburban Station making all local stops. *Joe Biden to crash festivities* Vice President Joe Biden announced Tuesday he will participate in the kickoff to the Independence Day celebrations. Biden will speak at the Celebration of Freedom Ceremony in front of Independence Hall on Friday at 10 a.m. The event pays tribute to United States history with patriotic music, speeches and a reading of excerpts from the Declaration of Independence. Biden, a Scranton native, is expected to recognize the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the 60th anniversary of the Brown v. Board Supreme Court decision.
