With the purpose of promoting Guatemala as the Heart of the Mayan World, the Commission of Sustainable Tourism (COMITURIS) of AGEXPORT along with the Instituto Guatemalteco de Turismo (INGUAT) and with the support of Al Invest IV, participated at the World Travel Market Latin-America (WTM) at Sao Paulo, Brazil. The purpose of WTM is generating networking and business among suppliers of products and services with national and international buyers to promote regional tourism.

The WTM is an event for the industry of Latin American travelers that aroused the interest of professionals in the tourist sector of Guatemala, so much that 16 national companies will be promoting the natural touristic beauty of Guatemala to 900 international buyers. 5,000 business meetings have been arranged so far with tourist companies all over the world, and there will opportunities to generate new and better ideas of commercial activities around the Latin American region.
Gray Line Guatemala, Porta Hotels, STP Guatemala, PTP Mundo Maya, Transter, Ecoviajes Guayacan, Maya Sky, Clark Tours, STS Special Travel Service, Santa Teresita Hotel y Spa, among others will be representing the country of the eternal spring at the WTM event, which is preparing to receive 7,000 visitors from around the globe. Guatemala will be side to side with important Latin American markets such as Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela, Costa Rica and Honduras.
“For the COMITURS participating on WTM Latin America is important now that South America has become a potential market to attract visitors with high acquisitive power because of the economic increase in these countries. We anticipate that at this event many businesses will be generated with wholesalers that have yet to sell Guatemala and we also expect to see the results of the large promotion that this destiny is currently working on," pointed out the Coordinator of the Commission of Sustainable Tourism of AGEXPORT, Ana Echeverria.
The COMITURS currently has 27 partner companies, among them are Hotels and operators verified and certified in good practices of sustainable tourism. Most of them combine the search of balance between environmental, administrative social responsibility, which is essential for the energetic efficiency. One of them is Kawilal Hotel and Spa, the first hotel certified by LEED-NC GOLD in Central America. Another is the natural park Ixpanpajul, a forest and natural refuge with a wide variety of animals, plants and trees. Also there is Takalik Maya Lodge ecologic hostel, that has the verification of fulfillment of the Global Criteria of Sustainable Tourism, and that was named by Rainforest Alliance as one of the top 10 sustainable romantic destinies of Latin America.
