SHS Hosting Forum Thursday Discussing Production of 'Spring Awakening'

Patch Shorewood, WI --

Shorewood High School will play host to a community forum Thursday discussing the drama department's production of the controversial Broadway musical Spring Awakening.

The forum, featuring a small panel and group discussions, is designed to give cast members, students and parents an opportunity to discuss the issues that face teenagers, district officials said. The forum starts at 7 p.m. in the high school studio theater, 1701 E. Capitol Dr.

“We know that this musical deals with controversial topics,” high school Principal Matt Joynt said Thursday, in a prepared statement from the district. “However, we also know that many of our students will be able to relate to the very real situations portrayed by the characters in Spring Awakening. As such, we want to use this production as a catalyst for open and honest discussions about being a teenager in the 21st century.”

The rock adaptation of Frank Wedekind’s 1891 expressionist play tells the story of 19th century German teenagers facing issues related to their sexuality. The play had been banned in Germany (and in the United States) due to its controversial subject matter. The musical adaptation hit Broadway in 2006.

SHS Drama will put on an uncut version of Spring Awakening. There isn't a high school version of Spring Awakening available, high school Drama Director Joe King has said, though some schools have put on unsanctioned versions.

Leaders of several community organizations including Tina Owen, of the Alliance School; Tom Hanley and Marquond Davis, of the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center; Julie Bock, of Pathfinders; Jay Botsford and Mia Noel, of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin and Holly Huges Stoner, of Samaritan Family Wellness, will be on hand. Shorewood Superintendent Martin Lexmond, Joynt and King will also be in attendance.

Spring Awakening will run May 10 through 12, and May 16 through 18. All shows will start at 7 p.m. except for the Sunday matinees, which starts at 2 p.m. Reported by Patch 7 hours ago.

Walton County Fire and Rescue responded to a grass fire at 1588 Holly Ridge Drive in the Cevera Lake subdivision in Walton County at about 3:16 p.m. on March 14, according to Batallion Chief Craig League.

"The fire started in the back yard of this residence and, due to high winds, quickly spread to a wooded area behind it, as well as to the adjacent property at 1590 Holly Ridge Drive," League said. "The fire damaged a wooden fence, a hot tub, 2 HVAC units, exterior siding, exterior power lines, landscaping trees and shrubs."

Dance Moms Recap: The 5 Most Cringe-Worthy Moments Somewhere, *Rosa Parks* is rolling in her grave! Thanks to *Abby Lee Miller* and her theme dances, the civil rights activist got lots of buzz on this week's Dance Moms. Sure she was lumped in with girls dressed in skimpy Vegas showgirl costumes and the boys (from *Cathy*'s Candy Apples studio) doing a Gangham style hip-hop dance, but that just proves she's still relevant.

OK! News: When Dance Moms Live Tweet... 9 Of Their Best One-Liners!

American history lessons aside, the episode was chock-full of WTF moments. These were the best:

1. *Melissa*'s pride in the fact that her 8-year-old locks herself in her room and make videos to post on YouTube. *Mackenzie* also figured out her mom's credit card number to download stuff from iTunes. Keep an eye that one, Melissa!

2. Everything about Cathy is cringe-worthy, but her spending "quality time" with daughter *Vivi* was such a joke. Vivi couldn't care less about learning ballet. Cathy proudly proclaims, "I'm trying to squeeze in every opportunity I can to work with her. Nothing make me happier than watching my baby dance." Um, how about doing something that makes Vivi happy? Judging by those weird monkey-like movements she made at the studio opening, dancing is just not her thing.

OK! News: 'Dance Moms' Exclusive! OK! Chats With a Former Abby Lee Miller Student

3. *Jill* pitching her fair-skinned daughter *Kendall* to play the role of Rosa Parks was just comical. Obviously *Nia* had that one in the bag. Abby is not that crazy.

4. Abby taking *Holly* shopping for a new wardrobe was just strange. Abby's not known for cutting-edge fashion, but she did style Holly well. Who would have thought?

OK! News: 'Dance Moms' Shocker: Is Abby's Mystery Man Gay? Plus: 5 More Burning Questions!

5. The look on *Kelly* and *Christie*'s faces when their daughters came out dressed like, you guessed it, prostitots! The ladies have gone on record before about their distaste for skimpy costumes but Abby protests and even suggests adding fishnet stockings to complete the ensemble. Classy!

NBC 4 reported in February that Johnson was the only person seen on security cameras entering and leaving Roehrs’ Holly Street home the day of the murder. The home has a history of break-ins and Roehrs and his family installed cameras at the house after it became a frequent target.

Do You Have A Leak? Fix it This Week! Patch Holly Springs-Hickory Flat, GA --

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) WaterSense program is encouraging Americans to check and replace leaky plumbing fixtures and sprinkler systems this week through March 24.

The hope is it will help local households save more than 10,000 gallons of water per year and as much as 10 percent on utility bills.

"Easy-to-fix household leaks waste more than 1 trillion gallons of water annually nationwide, which is equal to the amount of water used by more than 11 million homes," said EPA Acting Administrator for the Office of Water Nancy Stoner. "We’re not just wasting water; families also lose money from leaks with higher utility bills. That’s why Fix a Leak Week is so important, and why we encourage everyone to take a few simple steps that add up to make a significant positive impact."

According to the EPA, it takes just 10 minutes for businesses and homeowners to: check winter water bills and fixtures for water waste; twist and tighten pipe and hose connections; and consider replacing broken or inefficient fixtures with WaterSense-labeled models.

To big of an issue to handle yourself? Click here to check our directory listings for a Holly Springs plumber.

*Check your bills, Holly Springs!*

If winter water usage for a family of four exceeds 12,000 gallons per month, it’s likely that the home has a leak problem. Here are some easy fixes suggested by the EPA:

· Check toilets for silent leaks by putting a few drops of food coloring in the tank at the back and, if after 10 minutes, color shows up in the bowl before flushing, it may be time to make an easy repair and replace the flapper.
· Check outdoor hoses for damage from winter frost and tighten connections at the water source.
· For in-ground sprinkler systems, a professional certified through a WaterSense-labeled program can inspect sprinkler heads and pipes for signs of leakage and help homeowners maintain an efficient system and healthy lawn.
· Check additional plumbing and outdoor fixtures for leaks. They may just need a quick twist or pipe tape.

Learn more about fixing leaks, find a certified irrigation professional, or search for WaterSense labeled plumbing and irrigation products: on the EPA website.

Holly Madison has debuted the first picture of her baby girl, Rainbow Aurora Rotella.

The former Playboy Playmate, 33, who gave birth to her daughter on March 5, shares a photo of Rainbow in In Touch Weekly and admits she's already thinking about having more kids -- five to be exact.

“We want Rainbow to have lots of brothers and sisters. I’d love to have six!" Madison reveals, adding that she's loving motherhood.

“Just holding her is so much fun,” Madison tells the new issue of In Touch, on newsstands now. “Even the delivery was easy -- I was actually laughing as I was pushing!”

“I had an epidural, so it was fun," she adds, "She made it easy on me.”

And Madison and her fiance Pasquale Rotella are fighting back against the baby name criticism, saying their daughter will never feel ashamed of her unique moniker.

“If getting teased about her name is the worst thing that’s going to happen to her,” says Madison, “bring it on.”
